How to Choose a Baby Carrier: Comfort Fit, Lite or Toddler Sling
Most carrier guides start with a list of brands. This one starts with the two questions that actually decide it: how old is your baby, and how long do you carry for?
Keep Closer makes three carriers. They are not three versions of the same thing — each one solves a different problem, and once you know which problem you have, the choice takes about a minute.
The three carriers at a glance
Comfort Fit — from newborn
Our fullest-support carrier, and the one to choose if you want a single carrier from the very start. It has an apron-style waistband that sits on your hips, so your shoulders are not doing all the work, and shoulder straps you can wear in an X or H style — crossed or parallel at the back — whichever suits your body. It offers three carrying positions and comes in two sizes, Baby Size and Toddler Size, with a detachable hood and a chest clip.
This is the one for long stretches: the school run, a market, a walk that turns into a nap.
Lite — from 3 months
The same idea with less of everything. The Lite has no waistband at all — the weight sits on your shoulders and back rather than your hips — with X-style shoulder straps, two carrying positions (front, facing in, and backpack-style on your back) and a zipper on the body panel. It comes in S–XL or XXL+, with a detachable hood and a chest clip.
Parents who dislike a belt across their middle, or want something that packs down with less bulk, tend to end up here.
Toddler Sling — from 9 months
Our toddler hip carrier. It is worn over one shoulder, seats your child on your hip, and folds small enough to live in a bag. It is built for the up-and-down stage, when a toddler wants carrying for two minutes and then wants down again. One size, with custom sizes made on request.
One thing to be clear about, because it matters: the Toddler Sling is a carry assist for short periods, not fully hands-free, and not a replacement for a front carrier. Keep active support and attention on your child while wearing it, and change their position roughly every 30 minutes so neither of you gets sore.

Choosing by age
- Newborn to 3 months: the Comfort Fit is the carrier made for this stage.
- From 3 months: the Comfort Fit or the Lite. Choose on how you want to carry — with a waistband taking the weight on your hips, or without one.
- From 9 months: add the Toddler Sling for short lifts, alongside a front carrier for longer outings.
Getting the size right
This is where most people get stuck, and it is worth slowing down for. The Comfort Fit's two sizes — Baby Size and Toddler Size — cover different stages of your child's growth. The Lite's S–XL and XXL+ are about the person wearing it. The Toddler Sling is one size.
Each product page carries its own size guide with the measurements for that carrier. Read the guide on the page you are buying from rather than assuming the sizes carry across — they don't. And if you are between sizes, don't guess: book a free online fitting consultation and send us your measurements. Ten minutes with us beats an exchange.
What to check on any carrier, not just ours
- Can you adjust it on yourself, alone? If it needs a second person, you won't use it.
- Can you see your baby's face without moving fabric? You should be able to, at all times.
- Can you reach every buckle you need while wearing it? Straps you can't reach are straps you won't fasten properly.
- Does it pack down to something you'll actually take with you? The best carrier is the one you have with you.
- Does it come with real instructions? Ours do — the Comfort Fit guide, the Lite guide and the Toddler Sling instructions, each with a step-by-step booklet and video.

Where the specifications live
Weight guidance, waist measurements and the safety information for each model are listed on the product pages themselves, in the Product Safety & Instructions and sizing sections. We have deliberately not repeated them here — one copy of a specification is easier to keep correct than two.
Still deciding?
Start with age, then with how long you carry. From birth, or long stretches most days → Comfort Fit. From 3 months, with less bulk and no belt across your middle → Lite. From 9 months, for short lifts with a toddler who wants down again → Toddler Sling.
For a closer look at the first two, read Comfort Fit or Lite: which is right for you? — or see every carrier and ask us. We'd rather answer a question than process a return.
