Comfort Fit or Lite: Which Keep Closer Carrier Is Right for You?
The Comfort Fit and the Lite look alike at first glance: both are soft-structured carriers, both carry on your front or your back, both come with a detachable hood and a chest clip, and both are handmade in Bali. So what is the actual difference — and which one should you buy?
It comes down to one thing: where the weight sits.
The one real difference: the waistband
The Comfort Fit has an apron-style waistband. It sits on your hips and takes most of your baby's weight there, so your shoulders aren't doing all the work.
The Lite has no waistband at all. The weight sits on your shoulders and back instead — the style is sometimes called onbuhimo — and nothing crosses your middle.
Everything else follows from that.

Choose the Comfort Fit if…
- Your baby is newborn, or not born yet. The Comfort Fit is designed from newborn; the Lite from 3 months. If you want one carrier from day one, this is it.
- You carry for long stretches. School runs, markets, walks that turn into naps — a waistband that takes the weight on your hips makes a real difference over hours.
- You want options. Three carrying positions, and shoulder straps you can wear crossed (X) or parallel (H) at the back, depending on what's comfortable for you.
- You want to carry into the toddler years. It comes in a Baby Size and a Toddler Size, so you can choose the stage you're buying for.
Choose the Lite if…
- You don't want anything around your waist. With no waistband, nothing sits across your middle — which many parents simply find more comfortable.
- You want less bulk. Without a waistband or its padding, the Lite is lighter and packs down smaller.
- Your baby is 3 months or older and you want a carrier for front and back carrying without the extra structure.
- You're choosing on body shape rather than baby's age. The Lite's sizes — S–XL and XXL+ — are about the person wearing it.
What's the same
Both carriers have an adjustable seat, a detachable hood for naps, sun or a bit of privacy while feeding, and a chest clip for secure backpack carrying. Both are made by our own tailors in Bali — handmade, not mass-produced — and many colourways come in both, so you can often choose the fabric first and the style second.
Getting the size right
Each product page has its own size guide with the measurements for that carrier — the two families are sized differently, so check the guide on the page you're buying from. If you're between sizes, book a free online fitting consultation and send us your measurements.
Before you carry, read the instructions for your carrier: the Comfort Fit instruction guide or the Lite instruction guide.
And for later
From around 9 months, once your child can sit up unaided, many parents add a Toddler Sling for short lifts — read when to start with a toddler hip carrier. For all three carriers side by side, see how to choose a baby carrier.
