2. Introduction
Thank you for choosing the Keep Closer Toddler Hip Carrier – a convenient, compact solution for toddlers who love to walk but still need to be carried when tired.
This carrier is designed for children from 9+ months up to 20 kg (approx. 4 years old) who can sit independently. It offers a naturally seated position for your child and helps distribute their weight more comfortably on your hip.
Note: While this carrier provides a natural seat for your child, hip carrying is not fully ergonomic for the parent. For longer or fully hands-free carrying, we recommend using a structured front carrier.
3. Cleaning & Care
- Spot clean or hand wash gently with mild soap and water.
- Air dry completely before storing.
- Do not machine wash, tumble dry, bleach, or iron.
4. Instructions: How to Use the Carrier
Step-by-Step Guide
Wear the Carrier Over One Shoulder
- Slip the strap over one shoulder so the pouch rests on your opposite hip.
- The carrier should sit slightly above your hip bone, allowing your child to sit comfortably on your side.
Place Your Child in the Carrier
- Gently seat your toddler into the pouch.
- Ensure your child’s knees are higher than their bottom in an “M” shape.
- The stitching on the pouch should align with your child’s spine.
Adjust the Strap
- Make any necessary adjustments to the straps to achieve the best fit.
- Ensure the carrier is snug but comfortable for both you and your toddler.
- Your child should sit directly on your hip, not in front or behind it.
- The strap of the carrier should always be on your shoulder, not your neck.
Additional Safety Tips
- Attach the safety string to the buckle for extra security.
- While using the carrier, periodically check the buckle to ensure it remains secure.
- For smaller children, continue supporting them with one arm during movement.
5. FAQs
Q: Can I use this carrier with a baby who can’t sit yet?
A: No. This carrier is specifically designed for babies who can sit independently and have strong neck and back control—typically around 9 months and older. It does not offer the head and spine support needed for younger babies. For infants or babies who cannot sit yet, we recommend using a structured front carrier designed for newborn support.
Q: What makes this carrier different from a front or wrap-style carrier?
A: The toddler hip carrier is designed for quick, short-term use—ideal for toddlers who want to be picked up and put down often. It's more compact and minimal than structured carriers or wraps and offers fast on-and-off convenience, especially when traveling or at home.
Q: Is this carrier safe for my child’s hip development?
A: Yes. By the age of 9 months, a child’s hips are generally developed enough to safely sit in a hip seat carrier. When used correctly, this carrier supports the natural “M” position with knees higher than the bottom. For short-term carrying, it is absolutely safe and comfortable for your child’s hips.
Q: Does this carrier have storage or pockets?
A: This carrier is designed to be minimal and compact, so it doesn’t include built-in pockets. However, it does have a small hook where you can attach essentials like keys, a pacifier, or a small toy for convenience on the go.
Q: Can I breastfeed while using the hip carrier?
A: The hip carrier is not designed for breastfeeding. For safe and comfortable nursing, we recommend using a front carrier that offers full support and adjustability.
